Jaipur Blue Pottery

Jasmine & Vine -Floral Jaipur Blue Pottery Decorative Ceramic Wall Plates

Bring the royal charm of Rajasthan into your home with our exquisite Quartz Sand Blue Pottery Bells. Rooted in a 300-year-old artisanal tradition from the Pink City of Jaipur, each bell is a vibrant testament to India’s rich cultural heritage. Unlike traditional ceramics, authentic Jaipur Blue Pottery uses absolutely no clay. Instead, our master artisans meticulously craft each bell using a unique, time-honored recipe. Quartz stone is ground into a fine powder and blended with powdered glass, fuller's earth, borax, and natural tree gum. Kneaded with water into a dough, it is playfully flattened into "pancakes" and carefully pressed into Plaster of Paris molds to achieve its perfect shape. Over the course of 4 to 5 days, the bell is dried, hand-smoothed, and brought to life. Artisans use masterful brushstrokes to hand-paint intricate motifs—ranging from delicate florals and snowflakes to stars and traditional animal figures. Finally, it is coated in a glass powder glaze and fired in a traditional kiln to achieve its signature, brilliant glossy finish. Festive decorations, bohemian home accents, unique wind chimes, or a thoughtful, culturally rich gift for art lovers

Process story

1.Dough Preparation:Artisans mix quartz stone powder, powdered glass, Multani Mitti (Fuller's Earth), borax, natural gum, and water. No actual river clay is used. The mixture rests to form a cohesive dough. 2.Molding:The dough is flattened into a pancake (called a chapatti) and pressed into plaster of Paris molds. Wood ash is packed inside to help the piece hold its shape without sticking to the mold. 3.Drying and Smoothing:The piece dries in the sun for 1 to 2 days. Once hardened, the mold is removed, the ash is brushed out, and the surface is sanded smooth to prepare for painting. 4.Painting:Motifs (traditionally floral, geometric, or animal) are sketched and hand-painted using natural oxide pigments. Cobalt oxide provides the signature deep blue, while copper oxide yields turquoise. 5.Glazing and Firing:The painted item is dipped in a clear glaze made from powdered glass, borax, and zinc oxide. It is then fired once in a kiln at low temperatures for 4 to 5 hours. As it cools over several days, the vibrant colors emerge.
